So…why the new website? Wasn’t the old one good enough? Well, yes and no. It was a combination of HTML and Flash. It had a backend WordPress blog that was using a three-year-old theme and they weren’t updating the theme anymore and things have really changed. So, time to put everything into one ‘spot’.
However, along the way – I drank some of the Steve Jobs cool aid. Yes folks, it happened. Of course I have an iPhone and of course I have an iPad. BUT, I don’t have an Apple computer! So, the battle over Flash and whether it should be on the iPad or not finally took its toll on me and I felt like I had to make my site iPhone/iPad friendly. So, goodbye all my beautiful Flash galleries! What can I do to replace you?
Well, I used a combination of a couple of plug-ins to allow you to click on an image and see it full screen. However, for the gallery section, I’m not totally crazy about it. A ton of thumbnails on a page – you can click on them and they blow up as well, but you can also get a Flash slide show by clicking on the [Show as slideshow] link. However, I’m open to suggestions for a better WordPress plug in to show the gallery work. Still not crazy about this setup. So, if you have something that is working for you, please let me know.
I know – there’s also a video (for you iPhone/iPad guys) in the upper right-hand corner – it is NOT working on those devices. But…I do have an evil plan to fill that spot with something that will, so deal with the little white space you guys – Steve will make me move it soon.
Oh yeah – the images? I do take the occasional picture now and then. This was the sky right after a storm knocked out our power for 12 hours. Why 12 hours you say? Well, the crew from the electric company that covers this area, didn’t expect any trouble, went to a stag party, all got drunk, and couldn’t respond to the outage. Soooooo….. a crew had to drive all night to get here. How long did it take them to fix the outage? About an hour… You know you’re a redneck when…
And yes, I will be writing more in the website, and I WILL be taking more pictures and posting them here. Can you believe that I saw some leaves already changing color at the top of this one tree? It was also down to 44 the other night – so fall foliage is not far away.
The clouds couldn’t have been more beautiful that night. I am glad you captured it.
