I know, you’re thinking that I have finally gotten brain freeze up here. What could possibly be good about it being -10 degrees out? And remember, we’re not talkin’ chill factor here – we’re talking about -10 degrees ACTUAL temperature! Well, if there is any water out there that is not frozen, the steam starts to rise from it because it is warmer than the frigid outside temperature. Now, I’m not just talking about a small variation – I think it has to be a LARGE one, with a very frigid air temperature. At least that is what I’ve observed before.
With these kinds of temperatures this morning, I figured that the effect I’d seen (but never captured) would happen again. Problem is, I had decided that it was just too cold to go out and shoot! Well, the phone rang, my sister-in-law called and said “there’s something weird down by ‘the mansion’ – it looks all foggy and all.” Well, where the heck is ‘the mansion’ was the first question, but , she called, and I just had to get out and see what she was talking about. I figured out that I knew, but now I was really intrigued.
Well, it was not a wasted trip, as it was just beautiful. The sun was at a low angle coming through the trees, the fog was rising off of Spruce Creek as it roared down from the lake, and the fog was freezing as soon as it touched anything because of the extreme cold. I got some beautiful shots before the camera and I both started to get numb, and here are two of them.
