Painted Portrait – Deborah

Seems like I’ve been trying to finish this one for the LONGEST time! I did the portrait session with Deborah when we were in Elgin. Then, I worked on the image when we got up here, but I didn’t do the painted portion because I had a very particular style in mind for this. Over the last few months, I’ve been working on getting just the look I want in the portraits that I paint, and after the last ones of Fran AND Butch, I felt like I had arrived at a style that I enjoyed doing AND one that the clients loved. The before and after are shown below so that you can get a feel for how much work is involved, and how different it can look once I finish with it.

The Details: The one on the right is the original photo that we took in our Elgin Texas Studio’. Lighting was via standard studio lighting with a main umbrella on the left and a fill umbrella on camera right. The image on the left, is the final painted version using Painter X. Mostly pastel brushes were used, with a camel’s hair brush for the hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, etc. It was output to a 17×22 piece of Hahnnemuhle Fine Art Watercolor paper and printed on an Epson 4800 printer.

It will make a great Valentine’s Day gift!
