So, they say it will be Spring this Friday and I have to admit, the last few days have made me start thinking about the possibilities it will bring for my landscape work. I’ve already seen Robins, heard Red Winged Blackbirds, watched the Canada (I was corrected in that it is Canada Geese, not Canadian) Geese overhead flying north, and gotten up in the morning to hear them on the lake.
Problem is, there is ice on the lake, three feet of snow in the yard, and it was minus nine degrees (that’s a -9 Fahrenheit for you numeric folks) the other morning when I took these two photos! Deborah and Baxter were both in the jeep trying to stay warm (yes, I left it running with the heat on – global warming be damned) and I was out with my hat and gloves off to get these images.
It was beautiful – the sunrise, shadows on the snow, fog in the air instantly turning to ice on anything that it touched. The idea of fog in the air when it is this cold still fascinates me. OK, fog is moisture (water) and if water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, can anyone explain to me why it is able to exist as a mist when it is this cold out?
Enjoy the pictures, and wherever you are, please think Spring!
Dave,
Awesome shots! Why just yesterday I was thinking of you as I was photographing the beautiful Spring Iris’ which are blooming in our 80 degree garden!
Take care, Spring is very close for you.
Larry
I don’t want to hear it! It got up to 50 degrees yesterday :-) However, I WAS shooting some daffodils the other day – just not outside…
