Baxter’s Portrait

For all of you pet lovers, and especially you ‘Baxter’ lovers back in Elgin, I wanted to share the latest pose for ‘the boy’.  I’ve given the picture a ‘painterly’ look, and may in fact even use it as one of my painted portrait examples in the future.  I’ll certainly put him on the list, but I’ve got a few in front of him to do.

He is enjoying the snow up here, does not seem to be fazed by the cold (15 degrees this morning), and now sports a handsome red sweater any time he goes out. He has several new ‘friends’ – Wooly next door (the barker), Theresa and Friday on the other side.  Then, just down the street at my mother-in-laws, he has Tasha and Precious.  Up the street in the other direction though, there are five dogs that make haunting howls at night.  We don’t walk down that way much!

One of my favorite pictures is one we had done just on the spur of the moment at a pet store with Baxter’s predecessor Gizmo. They had Deborah and I just step into the pose with him, and it turned out great! Pet Portraits are just a lot of fun to work on, whether it is my own, a friend, neighbor, or clients animal.  Let’s face it – they never complain about how they look in the image!

Wolly is offended (the barker). He is just expressing himself. :-)

    He’s got your eyes!

  3. Kim says:

Haha, I personally think he has your nose……

Did you tranquilize him to get this shot? Beautifyl

Heck no, this was when we lived in Bayou Vista down in Galveston. He was just sitting on the couch, great lighting coming in from behind him to the left. Deborah had always liked the shot, but I hadn’t paid much attention to it for a couple of years. Was re-organizing files, saw it and figured I’d work on it and turn it into a great portrait. I may decide to continue to work on it and turn it into a painted portrait. We’ll see how long and hard the winter is!
