Well, Anne (with Edgar) will take center stage again, even though the wedding was four months ago. I decided to take one of their more ‘stylish’ images and turn it into a little bit different style digitally painted portrait. This time I didn’t want the oil painting look, but something that looked like a hand-colored delicate image. A soft ‘wedding’ look if you will. So, here’s the image that I started with.
Now, I worked with that image and first painted in a new almost charcoal look background, then worked on the clothes, skin and then finally the facial areas. Once I had painted things the way I wanted them, I then added in just a hint of color to the entire image. Once I was finished, I took the image back into Photoshop and did some minor changes to it. Here’s how the final image looked:
It’s always difficult, in images posted to the Internet in this size, to really see the detail of the bruch strokes. So, I cut out an area around Edgar’s tie to show the detail. Here’s a look at that section close up:
As you may have noticed, I have launched the new web site which wraps around the blog. Looks like I’m back into the portraits and weddings. The weddings tend to be a staple for many professional photographers. One way in which to distance yourself from all the others in the pack, is to offer a painted version of selected wedding portraits. But, you still want it to have that soft ‘wedding look’ and I think that this approach accomplishes that. You can find the image in the Portfolio/Other/Painted Portraits section of the main site, which allows you to see a larger version of the image. Just click on the square icon on the right side of the navigation at the bottom – it has an arrow pointing at about two-o’clock inside the square.
Good luck with the new website/biz Dad! My only gripe about the new site – no pics of us on it – we’ll have to work on that when we get back stateside! Love you!
I figured if I brought THOSE out, you’d get ticked off :-)
Not sure which ones you are talking about – anything BEFORE I turned 12/13 and got awkward is fair game! Bring on the bluebonnet/bunny pics!!! Hey, that’s a great idea for a good xmas gift for me – turn one of them into a painted portrait! Hah!
Hey – those painted portraits take about two weeks to do! Now, you in the bluebonnets would be a good one to do as a watercolor or something. I’d just have to find the original slide and scan it…buried in boxes somewhere.
Get on it – I’ll be in the states soon and you can come see me in NC and deliver my “painting”. :)
